OBC: Baby Steps

I love my Toyota Corolla.  Its reliable.  Has pretty decent gas mileage.  However, it takes it a little while to get from 0 to 60.  Not unlike me with Operation Bear Chase.  I set some lofty goals on Monday...and I'm going to have to work a little slowly in making it all work.  Even so, I am pretty happy with this past week.

Monday:  4.05 mile run
Tuesday: 6.04 mile run
Wednesday: Bike to Work Day: 13.0 miles bike
Thursday: 5.06 mile run
Friday: REST
Saturday:  12.23 mile run
Sunday: approx:23 mile bike ride (out and back from Frisco to Vail Pass - about 1700 elevation gain)

So that equals: run 4x and bike 2x.  Next up this week, adding bootcamp.

Today was a pretty special day.  I forgot my camera today.  Which is a total fail because the bike ride was incredibly beautiful.  I'm blessed to have wonderful friends who motivated me to tackle the Pass, instead of passing on the Pass!  Feelin' kinda like superwoman!

Hope you all had an awesome weekend!

Operation Bear Chase

Less than 15 weeks.  103 days.  That's all that remains before I tackle my first ultra - the Bear Chase 50K.  GULP.

I'm really not at the starting point I had imagined.  Not running for the past three weeks was not how I had hoped to start the training season.  But enough of the whining.  Well, probably not enough with the whining, I expect a lot of whining between now and then.  And during too.  Anyhow, today marks the beginning of Operation Bear Chase.  I think I'll call it the "OBC" for short.  And what will this comprise?  Running 5-6x/week.  Bootcamp/Cross-training 2-3x/week.  Biking 3-4x/week.  Eating better.  Getting more sleep.

Today kicked off with 4 miles.  Conditions: 63 degrees and 80% humidity.  If you know Denver, you know we rarely see humidity this high.  Heck rare to see it half that.  I was dripping in sweat.  But it felt good to get the OBC started...just think a 50K = my run this morning X 8.  Lots of fun!

Happy First Day of Summer!

Welcome Back Old Friend!

Today I went for a 3 mile run.  Just in the neighborhood.  And it was the best run ever.  Well, maybe  that's an overstatement, but I haven't been able to run since May 29th.  That's a long time to go without running.  So I just wanted to wrap my arms around this one and hug the heck out of it!  And, I definitely wanted to throw a party!

The first mile was a .25 mile run/.25 mile walk effort.  The second mile was a .50 mile run/.50 mile walk and the last one was a full out run.  While there is a little discomfort, I think I'm back!  I expect to be smiling all day long...

Pinch

Thankfully the diagnosis is pinched nerve.  That's so much better than something being torn.  I guess the posture on my bike, the uphill portion of my hike, a weak core and sitting at a desk all combined to aggrevate the nerve.  Prescription: no running, no road biking, no bending forward without bended knees (harder than you think), and some core building exercises.  Fingers crossed I can return to regular exercise soon!

Happy National Running Day!

Did you know it was National Running Day?  What are you doing to celebrate?  This morning, I should have been on a nice run to celebrate!  However, I did something to my knee on Sunday.  I wish I had a story to relate this knee pain to some awesome run, hike or bike ride.  Alas, I cannot.  Nope, it was from an everyday activity.  As I was getting up from the couch, my knee locked and there was a great deal of pain.  I was hiking a mere hour before.  And the day before a beautiful 20 mile bike ride.  And the day before a nice 4 mile run.  I'm going to see a wonderful doctor this afternoon to see what's really going on.  Wish me luck so that I'm healthy to celebrate National Running Day...maybe a few days after...in the meantime, why aren't you running so that I can live vicariously through you?
